We encourage year 8 students to develop good study skills and the ability to learn independently. Homework is set weekly according to the academic planning. We welcome the cooperation of parents in ensuring that homework is completed promptly, and to a high standard. . Before joining our classes’ Initial free assessment is conducted to find out the current strength and weaknesses. Therefore we could plan lesson effectively.
In Maths, our aim is to create a confident attitude to mathematics and to develop, maintain and stimulate students’ curiosity, interest and enjoyment in mathematics.
At the end of each Unit there will be a summative test based on the work covered. Performance in each topic will be recorded by the pupil so individual targets may be set for improvement.
Homework is set regularly every week.Your son/daughter will need a scientific calculator for this course of study.
In English, we aim to engage, excite and extend pupils’ literary perspectives through a varied curriculum, rich in contemporary and classic fiction, media and non-fiction texts. we set out to create as many opportunities as possible for our students to use their imaginative and creative skills in reading, writing and speaking and listening tasks.

- Reading Shakespeare, with a focus on themes
- Writing re-creatively and empathically
- Reading non-fiction texts with a focus on language and presentational devices
- Writing to persuade and review
- Persuasive speeches
- Reading fiction with a focus on structure and language
- Writing to express an opinion and create an argument
Year 8 Science is the foundation for GCSEs. Our objective is to cover the fundamental knowledge required for them to be successful at their GCSEs. Students will explore the biological, chemical and physical aspects of sciences.
Each week will have a set topic and average teaching time will be two hours which includes a mini test/recap on the topics covered previously.
Home work
All students are required to complete given homework for each week. Teachers will usually mark homework. Additional homework can even be marked by parents by login to our online learning system (learningwaves.com) where you can find answer sheets for the given homework.
Feedback
Feedback will be given at the end of every session, every week by teaching staff. Parents will have an opportunity to meet the teachers at the send of the sessions for feedback and to discuss any concerns related to the learning process.
Progress tests
There will be a progress test at the end of each school term (every 6 weeks). After the progress test, a progress reports will also be provided, by highlighting your child’s strengths and weaknesses, including targets for next term.
Based on the progress, we can arrange additional support or learning programmes to bridge any learning gaps.
Class materials
All the class materials, progress tests, mock exam papers, assessments, parental guidance sessions are included within the course fees. Once registered with us, additional books and online resource can be purchased at discounted rates.
